Penelope's Coat

If you've never seen the movie Penelope you need to stop reading this and go watch it right now.................

Done? Good, now if you are anything like most of the girls I know(No Tim, this doesn't include you!) you have fallen in love with Penelope's wardrobe! Vintage, yet modern and a look you could realistically implement today. Unlike some of my more tragic Little House and Colonial inspired clothing choices!

My favorite item of clothing? If you couldn't tell from the tittle and picture, is her coat and I have finally found the pattern to recreate it! Yes, I am going to try and recreate the Penelope Coat. Try Googling it and see what the ratio of people who want one and people who have made one is, pretty dismal right?

But, in the face of adversity, mule like stubbornness will prevail. My family will be sick of me talking about it(okay, okay, obsessing!) long before I am anywhere near done. I will ignore hating to change and combine patterns and putting on piping! I have forged ahead and after much searching have found both the fabric and the pattern!

~The fabric~
A plum corduroy fabric, yes I know the original is a slightly herringboned wool, but that is pricey and far to warm for me! So, this will have to do, hopefully it will be ordered this weekend, as long as I don't have another unexpected day off of work!

~The pattern~
While I just bought this a month ago, it appears to be out of print! I have another coat pattern that has the big peter pan type collar, so that's been taken care of also. I  have decided to not do the French hem. Why, you may ask, pure hatred of sewing curves, especially on heavy fabrics! I am also getting rid of the pirate sleeves because I know that I would drag then through everything, I have an alternative in mind that would keep with the whimsical theme of the original while allowing me to keep my cuffs butter free!(Oscar Wilde reference there, bonus points if you can tell me what play it's from!)

One more little bit of bonus info, these shoes are exactly like the ones Penelope wears for most of the movie, they are just brown; or black, instead of teal.
You can find them at Payless and it's BOGO right now, and they have some super cute shoes this season! ;)

Masquerade

Amanda Beth over at Amandabethonline is hosting a masquerade event. I've always wanted to go to a masquerade, but this is the closest I've ever gotten, in my own imagination!=)

A mysterious doorway in the basement, where could it lead?

What.....can it be? Could I really have found the doorway to the fairies' summer masquerade?

What to wear.....ah ha! Perfect!

Now, the mask. Hope to see you there!

~How many times is it appropriate to say "What?" before you just nod and smile because you still didn't hear what they said?

~I love the sense of camaraderie when an entire line of cars teams up to prevent a **************** from cutting in at the front. Stay strong, brothers!

~While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it...thanks Mario Kart.

~MapQuest really needs to start their directions on #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my neighborhood.

~Obituaries would be a lot more interesting if they told you how the person died.

~I find it hard to believe there are actually people who get in the shower first and THEN turn on the water.

~Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

~I can't remember the last time I wasn't at least kind of tired.

~Bad decisions make good stories.

~Whenever I'm Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don't mind if I do!

~Is it just me or do high school girls get sluttier & sluttier every year?

~If Carmen San Diego and Waldo ever got together, their offspring would probably just be completely invisible.

~Why is it that during an ice-breaker, when the whole room has to go around and say their name and where they are from, I get so incredibly nervous? Like I know my name, I know where I'm from; this shouldn't be a problem....

~You never know when it will strike, but there comes a moment at work when you've made up your mind that you just aren’t doing anything productive for the rest of the day.

~Can we all just agree to ignore whatever comes after DVDs? I don't want to have to restart my collection.

~There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

~I'm always slightly terrified when I exit out of Word and it asks me if I want to save any changes to my ten page research paper that I swear I did not make any changes to.

~"Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this ever.

~I hate being the one with the remote in a room full of people watching TV. There's so much pressure. 'I love this show, but will they judge me if I keep it on? I bet everyone is wishing we weren’t watching this. It's only a matter of time before they all get up and leave the room. Will we still be friends after this?'

~While watching the Olympics, I find myself cheering equally for China and USA. No, I am not of Chinese descent, but I am fairly certain that when Chinese athletes don’t win, they are executed.

~I hate when I just miss a call by the last ring (Hello? Hello? Darnit!), but when I immediately call back, it rings nine times and goes to voicemail. What'd you do after I didn't answer? Drop the phone and run away?

~I hate leaving my house confident and looking good and then not seeing anyone of importance the entire day. What a waste.

~I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it's on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

~Why is a school zone 20 mph? That seems like the optimal cruising speed for pedophiles...

~Sometimes I'll look down at my watch 3 consecutive times and still not know what time it is.

~It should probably be called Unplanned Parenthood.

~I keep some people's phone numbers in my phone just so I know not to answer when they call.

~Even if I knew your social security number, I wouldn't know what do to with it.
~Even under ideal conditions people have trouble locating their car keys in a pocket, finding their cell phone, and Pinning the Tail on the Donkey - but I’d bet everyone can find and push the Snooze button from 3 feet away, in about 1.7 seconds, eyes closed, first time every time...

~The only time I ever like hitting a red light is when I am trying to finish a text.

~I wonder if cops ever get pissed off at the fact that everyone they drive behind obeys the speed limit, or goes even slower...

~I think the freezer deserves a light as well.

~I disagree with Kay Jewelers. I would bet on any given Friday or Saturday night more kisses begin with Miller Lites than Kay.

I just opened an Etsy shop!!

Yes, I am an actual Scottish Lady and am legally entitled to use the title. Isn't that awesome?=)

SILHOUETTE MACHINE GUEST GIVEAWAY!!!!

I have been seeing these machines around the blogging world for awhile and have almost bought one multiple times, but as I don't have my own house yet that temptation has never been given into. I talk myself out of it, I don't need another big machine, there aren't enough uses to justify the money spent. But if I win one, that's not the same as buying, right? ;-)

Brooch Bouquets

These bouquets are entirely made out of earrings and brooches. They are also entirely waaaaay to expensive for me to even contemplate having one, I may have to start collecting the pieces to make one for myself!!

If Life Gives You Lemon Fabric, Make a Lemon Dress!

Okay, okay, so maybe that's not exactly how this saying goes, but it's how I felt when I first saw this fabric. I talked my self out of it that day, but my brain kept returning to it again and again. I guess my brain was thinking out loud, because my Mom got it for me as a present and now here we are!

One of the first times I wore it, a lady in Costco grabbed me and started going on and on about how she loved vintage and how not enough people wore vintage and that I wore it so well. Then she asked where I got the dress and when I said I made it, that started off another monologue about how well I sewed and it looked so vintage and she had a tank top she wanted a pattern made from, but still wanted to keep the original shirt intact.

I was speechless through out most of this, there was just lots of smiling and nodding. I was going for a vintage look, and I guess I achieved it!

Then later that same day I was walking back to my car after tea with friends and there were some obviously bored teenagers asking the people that passed for money. When I passed them, they asked and I stopped unsure as to whether or not I should ask them "politely" what they needed it for. But, I ended up just saying no and walked away to the laughter of the group. But, just before I got out of ear shot I heard one of the girls say, "She may have been weird, but I really liked her dress!"

Thank you talkative lady at Costco and bum of a teenager, I will treasure your comments forever!=)

Yum!

I would like you to meet the tastiest summer sandwich in the world!

My Mom was always talking about how much she loved this certain kind of sandwich but, I was never interested. I mean, tomatoes and mayonnaise? Yuck! But, then after we came up with using butter on cucumber sandwiches in place of the mayo the idea transferred over to these.

All they are is bread, a thin schmear of butter, salt, pepper, basil and tomato. But, is that all a girl can do? Nope! I can't ever leave well enough alone, so first I seeded the tomatoes, to get rid of all those slimy bits. Then I added very thinly sliced Swiss cheese. Then lightly toasting the bread; which was now sourdough or rosemary olive oil, was added and finally the regular basil was changed to lime basil. Can you say perfect sandwich?

So, to recap, lightly toasted rosemary bread, schmear a little butter on both slices, sprinkle with salt and pepper, add thinly sliced Swiss cheese, seeded tomatoes and lime basil, then enjoy!!

(Edited later to changed transformed into transferred and marvel again that the spell check did not have the word schmear in it's dictionary, I mean hello? Doesn't everybody use that word?)

Home Again!

The cars unpacked, the duffles too, the dirt is almost gone,
The sweeping up of all the sand seems to go on and on.
Our sunburned faces and and bug bitten limbs, are happy to be clean,
The sun and sand while lots of fun, to our epidermis can be mean!

From Family camp we've just come home, bug bitten tired and sore,
But as we drove away we cried, please just a little while more!
The week was full of many things, like friends and food and fun,
It was so much fun in fact, I wish it wasn't done!

I would like to thank everyone who came up and made,
This family camp the thing it was, God's love was on display.
Old friendships deepened and new ones made, that is where it's at,
This week would not have been the same, if we had been missing that!

I will sleep in my own bed tonight, not afraid of bugs or mice,
I think maybe I'll hear bags pipes play, say, won't that be awful nice?
It's time to go, my rhymes are done, my bed is calling me,
I can't wait until next year, I love my FBC Family!*

*Yes, I know that last line has to many syllables, but in this case content was way more important then a perfect rhyme scheme! =)

Day 29~ Hopes, dreams and plans you have for the next 365 days

*Sigh* I know what I want to happen in the next 365 days, but whether God has the same plans is yet to be seen! So, I'll post a hope, a dream and a plan for the next 365 days and see what happens!=)

~A Hope~
First and foremost, I want to get married. I guess I should go on a date first, huh? ;)

~A Dream~
To become a published author!

~A Plan~
To live the life God has planned for me with a joyful heart, even if His plan doesn't align with mine!

Day 28~A scar you Have and it's Story

This scar is from tripping and falling against the dog gate we have in front of our screen door. How it happened is not funny but what happened later is.

I had been trying to keep a band aid on it, but it kept falling off and I got tired of putting new ones on. So, I just left it off. I was talking to the dad of some kids I babysit when he looked down and noticed the scabby gash on my arm, he stopped talking shuddered and whispered, "Do you need to go see someone about that?"
I said, "No, it happened a few days ago, it's okay." He gulped and nodded and slowly backed out of the house never speaking again or looking away from my arm. He's a little squeamish!

Hmm, I know it's hard to see in the pic, but when I get cold it turns purple, and not a very pretty purple either!=)

Day 27~ A Physical Feature you Love

Now, like a few others days, I've seen this done two ways, a physical feature that you love on yourself, or a physical feature you like to look at on others.

~On Others~
I always notice peoples hair. Don't ask me why, I just do!
This is some of my favorite celebrity hair.=)

~Taylor Swift~
I love her curls and her songs, but that's another post!

~Jon Corbett~
Yes, I know, I know. What am I thinking? His hair is so long and un-manly! What can I say, I like nice looking longish hair on a guy, so sue me!

~Sandra Bullock~
Nothing needs to be said!

~Elliot Yamin~
A combo of curls and longish guy hair, *sigh*

~On Me~

~My Eyes~
Sorry for the creepy picture, this is the best way I could find to get a picture of my eyes. I would smile, but my eyes squinch up and you can't see them as good!

Even creepier close up shot!

Like normal, I'm picking two! I won't have a picture of this one, but I've always rather found of my butt!=)

Day 26~ A Childhood Memory

My earliest memory is from when I was about 3 years old. My Dad was digging post holes for a swing set and he was digging them deep enough that you couldn't see him when he got in them. I just remember seeing my Dad disappear into a deep dark hole and being extremely worried! Sorry for the lack of inspiration in todays post!

I'll leave you a funny squirrel picture to make up for my lack of a decent post today!=)

Hello All!

I'm going to be gone for a few days and my 30 day challenge is going to end without me! I've posted everyday since I started, I was so happy that I hadn't missed any. Then last week when I realized our churches family camp was going on a week earlier then I thought. A little bit pf panic set in. Do not despair though, faithful followers, I have discovered a way to magically pre-post my posts so they will still show up at 8:30ish each morning when I'm away from the blogging world. This magic is sooo secret that only the chosen shall know how it is done, or anybody who has clicked on the post options link.....  ;-)
(Yes, Tim. I figured it out all by my little, technologically un-savey, self! Aren't you proud?hehe)

A couple pics from lasts years camp, it's been at the same place for years and years. In fact, our church helped build the new(when I saw new, I mean newer then the one that had been there for at least 50 years!) dining hall after the old one burned down!=)
